Business & Partnerships

Businesses can support and promote their work through radio in different ways. Two terms you may encounter are advertising and sponsorship. They can overlap, but understanding the intended role of each will help you ask clearer questions when discussing a campaign.

Specific arrangements vary by station and agreement. Use this guide to prepare for a conversation, then confirm the available options on the Intsetse FM advertising page.

A radio advert carries a defined message

An advert is typically a produced or read message promoting a business, service or offer. The discussion may cover its duration, wording, production and when it will run. Your brief should identify one main message and an action the listener can take.

Ask who prepares the script, how approval works and whether changes after approval carry additional costs. Confirm what is included in the quotation instead of assuming that every production element is part of the airtime price.

Sponsorship associates a brand with an activity

A sponsorship may connect a business with a programme, segment or station activity. Depending on the agreement, it can include acknowledgements or other defined promotional elements. It should not be assumed to give a sponsor control over editorial coverage or a presenter’s independent opinions.

Audience fit matters. Explain why the proposed association makes sense for your business and ask the station what forms of recognition are actually available.

Compare the details before deciding

For either approach, clarify the dates, deliverables, approval process, total cost and any reporting that will be provided. Ask how missed or changed placements are handled. Written details help both sides work from the same understanding.

Think about the resources your own team needs as well. A campaign directing listeners to a contact number needs someone available to answer it.

Use our advertising brief guide to organise your information, then contact the station for a current proposal. Neither format guarantees a particular number of customers.
